Fellowship-trained surgeon Tomasine Fodera is part of a real-life “sister act”. After graduating from Georgetown University School of Medicine and leading ACGME-accredited training programs, she joined her sister, Maria to practice in New York.

Dr. Fodera is the only fellowship-trained surgical oncologist in the borough of Staten Island. She was the first recipient of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation Grant at University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center/Parkland Hospital where she completed her oncologic training.

She has done extensive research in oncology and published her work. Dr. Fodera is Board certified by the American Board of Surgery. She is a member of many prestigious professional societies and is an active Board of Advisors member for the American Cancer Society.

Dr. Fodera brings compassion and support to her patients through all phases of their treatment. She sees many patients for menopausal symptoms, especially females with early menopause secondary to surgery or chemotherapy. She is an avid proponent of bio-identical hormone therapy in her patients.

Maria Elena Fodera, MD

Dr. Fodera graduated from Georgetown University School of Medicine. She completed General Surgery residency at Robert Wood Johnson/ University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and Vascular Surgery fellowships at University of Tennessee and Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn.

Dr. Fodera is Board certified by the American Board of Surgery. She is a member of numerous professional societies and Assistant Clinical Professor of Surgery at State University of New York/ Downstate Medical Center. She has a private practice located in New York with her sister surgeon, Tomasine.

Dr. Fodera prides herself on listening to her patients and promoting good health habits for her patients, rather than just treating disease. As an advocate for preventative care of her patient, especially cardiovascular health, she believes in the potential of bio identical hormones for them.
