John Amick, DO

Since 1983, Dr. John Amick has cared for patients in Liberty, MO and the surrounding area with the belief that medical management of diseases and health risk reductions will promote optimal health and prevent the future development of illness. He founded Cobblestone Family Health in 1993 and continues to practice the time-honored tradition of family medical care that includes periodic health-maintenance exams, in-office labs, x-rays, and a staff to coordinate medical referrals and testing.

Dr. Amick graduated from Liberty High School and received a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry from William Jewell College. He attended medical school at the Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences and completed his internship at the Tulsa Regional Medical Center. His is a member of the Psi Sigma Alpha Scholastic Fraternity for Academic Achievement. He is Board Certified in Family Practice and serves on the medical staffs of Liberty Hospital and North Kansas City Hospital. He is also the medical director of three local nursing homes.

Dr. Amick and his wife have called Liberty and the Northland home for over 30 years. They raised their daughters and watched Liberty grow while maintaining its small-town appeal. Similarly, his practice has grown staying current with the medical technology while keeping the values of a small family practice.

John Burroughs, MD

Dr. John Burroughs joined Cobblestone Family Health in the summer of 2000. He had been in private practice outside of Boise, Idaho before moving to Liberty with his family.

After graduating Cum Laude from Duke University, Dr. Burroughs earned his medical degree from Wake Forest University. Dr. Burroughs received residency training at the University of Utah where he was named Chief Resident for his final year of training.

Dr. Burroughs enjoys teaching and tries to incorporate this into his practice. He believes that the doctor-patient relationship should be one of partners working toward improved health. He uses a focus on evidence-based medicine to counsel his patients and involve them in making decisions for treating acute illness as well as for preventive care visits.

Family medicine provides a wonderful and exciting variety of challenges every day in the office and in the hospital. Dr. Burroughs loves the opportunity to work with patients of all ages: from newborns to ninety-year olds (and beyond). He was drawn to family medicine by the opportunity to prevent chronic disease(such as heart disease, diabetes and emphysema) andpromote lifestyle changes (such as weight loss and smoking cessation).

By seeing entire families in a practice, the family physician often gains a more complete understanding of the obstacles (and assistance) that a patient may have in obtaining their goal of excellent health.

Dr. Burroughs is a member of the medical staffs of Liberty Hospital and North Kansas City Hospital. He is a medical director of two local nursing homes as well as Crossroads Hospice. He serves as a volunteer physician for Liberty High Schools athletic teams. He stays active outside of the office keeping up with the schedules of his four children and coaching youth soccer. He plays soccer and is traveling the country (slowly) running marathons.
