Melinda Miller-Thrasher, MD

Dr Melinda Miller-Thrasher was born and raised in Harlem, one of seven brothers and sisters. She credits her mother, her grandmother and the Lord for the perseverance and her older brothers with providing the exposure and guidance, which affected her decision to pursue medicine.

She studied at Cornell University with a major in Biology and a minor in Nutritional Sciences.

She completed her residency training at New York University.

She was recruited to join the faculty of Emory University School of Medicine as an Assistant professor, where she taught and trained students and resident doctors from Emory and Morehouse medical schools.

Although no longer fulltime faculty, she continues to satisfy her passion for teaching by mentoring scores of premed and medical students through organizations such as the Atlanta Medical Association, the PAUSE program and through the Morehouse and Spelman pre-health careers programs.

Dr. Thrasher has over 20 years of post-residency experience in Obstetrics and Gynecology, a field she chose so as to have an early impact on young women’s health and a life-long impact on the children they bare.

“I value the relationship I have with my patients.

As a woman, the patients I care for have a great deal in common with me.

I am proud to share both my personal and professional interest in caring for them.”

Her inclusion in Essence magazine’s feature on GYNECOLOGISTS YOU LOVE

as well as being a Patient’s Choice Award recipient serves as an abbreviated testament to the care she provides.

Over the years, she has aspired to reach new personal milestones involving her love of physical fitness and long distance running and considers her running of the New York Marathon one of her greatest achievements.

She brings this emphasis on nutrition and fitness to her practice along with her medical knowledge to motivate, educate and empower women, who she believes, significantly influences the lives of their families. Realizing that healthy lifestyle practices are best started young, and understanding that women are the central decision makers of the household, where nutrition, health and exercise are concerned,

Dr.Thrasher delivers her message to others using the outreach organization known as Innovative In Action. Her passion for writing along with her passion for educating women on non-hysterectomy options for treatment of fibroids inspired her to author The Innovative Women’s Guide to Managing Fibroids without Hysterectomy.

The manuscript has been submitted for publication.

Dr. Miller-Thrasher was competitively selected to receive advanced training in a one-year clinical fellowship through the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery at the nationally-acclaimed/nationally recognized and busiest cosmetic surgery practice in the country (Southern Surgical Arts) under the tutelage of cosmetic and plastic surgeons who are leaders in the Academy.
